The Teatro Massimo unveils its 2026–2027 season: a year of celebrations to mark the 130th anniversary of its opening
On Tuesday 30 June, we presented the Opera, Ballets and Concerts 26/27, an internationally-oriented programme created to celebrate two historic milestones for our institution and for the city of Palermo: the 130th anniversary of the inauguration of the Teatro Massimo in 1897, and the 30th anniversary of its rebirth with the reopening in 1997.
The new programme will open with the opera Samson et Dalila, whilst the anniversary celebrations will culminate on 16 May – the exact date of the theatre’s historic opening – with a performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s Falstaff. The opera season will feature a prestigious artistic programme including Macbeth conducted by Maestro Riccardo Muti, alongside Non dirmi che hai paura, Lucia di Lammermoor, Tosca, Die Zauberflöte, Ernani and Carmen.
Alongside the opera season, the dance programme will feature five productions involving the Corps de ballet: the traditional performances of Snow White and The Nutcracker, The Great Gatsby, Sylvia and the Balanchine – Tchaikovsky project.
The concert season will enrich the Foundation’s cultural programme throughout the year, featuring internationally renowned artists including Giovanni Sollima, Fabio Biondi and Daniil Trifonov. Among the highlights is a special tribute to the composer Salvatore Sciarrino, featuring the Klangforum Wien ensemble.
Full details about the complete programme, season tickets and how to purchase tickets will be available shortly on our official channels.
